The Legend of Zora
A downloadable game
The Legend of Zora is a semi-top-down pixel hack-and-slash with added magic mechanics. As Zora, you awaken on a strange island and now have the might to fend off any adversary. As you explore you come across hoards of formidable foes. Use your assortment of weapons and magic abilities to fight off your attackers. Upgrade your abilities as you gain experience points from your fallen enemies. Defeat as many foes as you can and see how far you get!
This game was developed in Python using the Pygame module. The game was created as a bonus project to help further my understanding of Python. All assets were made available by an online course.
How to Play:
- Arrow Keys to Move Up, Down, Left, or Right
- Space to Attack
- Left Shift to Cast Magic
- Q to Switch Weapon
- E to Switch Magic (Healing or Flames)
- Quit the game by clicking X in the top corner
How to Upgrade Skills:
- Tab to Open Upgrade Menu
- Left & Right Arrow Keys to Cycle Through Skills
- Space to Upgrade Selected Skill

Install instructions
- Download the .zip folder titled “The Legend of Zora."
- Locate the downloaded zip folder and select it. Right-click on the folder and select “Extract File" or "Extract All." This will extract the file to the same location as the downloaded zip.
- Locate the extracted file, which should be a folder titled “The Legend of Zora.” Open the folder.
- Run the .exe file titled “The Legend of Zora” by double-clicking the icon.
- Make sure to allow your PC to run the program if prompted with an “unfamiliar file” pop-up
- Once opened, the game will run in a popup window.
WARNING: Please do not alter/move any contents within the folder, including the .exe application. This may cause issues and prevent the game from running properly.
